Memorial contributions create
Nichols Scholarship at MC
Release Date: March 25, 2003
MONMOUTH, Ill. — In a perfect world, Jordan Nichols would be enjoying
the second half of his junior year at Monmouth College, relishing memories
of last week’s spring break and recalling fondly his semester abroad last
year in Paris.
Nichols, however, was killed in an automobile accident last summer, but
his memory will live on at Monmouth College, thanks to the establishment
of the Jordan Nichols Memorial Scholarship. Funded by memorial
contributions that were donated to the college by his mother, Marjory
Champion, the scholarship will be for $750 per year.
The scholarship is to be awarded to a worthy incoming Monmouth College
freshman from Illinois with preference given to students from Cerro Gordo
High School, Nichols’ alma mater. The scholarship recipient should
demonstrate financial need and have graduated from high school with a
minimum GPA of 3.0. In addition, the recipient should be a
multi-dimensional student who is active in extracurricular activities,
have a strong work ethic outside of the classroom and have contributed to
his or her church community.
