Release Date: February 4, 2003
MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Monmouth College chapter of
Pi Beta
Phi women’s fraternity was recognized in the Fall 2002 issue of the
organization’s magazine, The Arrow, for numerous awards of excellence.
The Monmouth chapter received four awards: the JoAnn Minor Roderick
Chapter of Excellence; the Alumnae Province President’s; the Links to
Literacy; and the Olivia Smith Moore Silver Slipper.
The Roderick honor, which is given to 10 chapters in the nation, considers
all aspects of chapter programming and chapter responsibilities. It also
includes involvement of the chapters’ members in various aspects of the
community and campus life among other criteria.
The APP award was given to the chapter for the best senior programming and
participation. Criteria for the award included programming to meet the
needs of senior members as they leave school and the percentage of seniors
who are active participants in all areas of chapter life.
The literacy award was issued in recognition of the chapter’s high
percentage of volunteer involvement in literacy programming, and the
Silver Slipper award for best chapter treasurer was awarded to Diane
Serven, a 2001 Monmouth graduate. The award recognizes a chapter treasurer
who has served a full term and who fulfilled the responsibilities of her
office in an exemplary manner and whose chapter is in a sound or improved
financial condition.
