MONMOUTH, Ill. — One of Monmouth College’s most
popular areas of study just became more appealing thanks to an
articulation agreement the school has reached with Bradley University’s
Foster College of Business Administration.
Under the agreement, accounting majors who take a
four-year, 14-course unit of study at Monmouth College in the fields of
accounting, business and other supporting subjects will be able to earn a
graduate degree after a fifth year of study at Bradley, according to MC
accounting professor Frank Gersich.
“If they do all the course work here, students
will be able to go on to Bradley and obtain a master of science in
accounting in one year,” he said. “This is a CPA (certified public
accountant) track program that they can do, so that they won’t have to
enter with course deficiencies to complete. It provides a seamless avenue
for our students.
“The benefit is, they get a graduate degree,”
Gersich continued. “The CPA license and the graduate degree together can
have long-term benefits for our students.”
Another benefit of the agreement, Gersich noted,
is that Monmouth can now be more competitive with schools such as Northern
Illinois University in attracting undergraduate students. “They can come
to Monmouth and they won’t be disadvantaged by having to take longer to
get where they want to go,” Gersich said.
Monmouth already has a similar articulation
agreement with Western Illinois University.
With approximately 65 students currently enrolled,
accounting is consistently one of the five most popular majors for
Monmouth students
