MC’s Kuppinger to speak on Egyptian
experienceRelease Date: March 23, 2004
MONMOUTH, Ill. — Petra Kuppinger, Monmouth College
assistant professor of sociology and anthropology, will be the featured
speaker at an International Luncheon on March 31 at noon in the
Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room in the college’s Stockdale Center.
Entitled “Alleys and Arcades: An Afternoon in
Cairo,” Kuppinger’s lecture will chronicle half of a day of her return to
Cairo, Egypt, last summer. She had the opportunity to revisit the
community where she had conducted years of fieldwork in the 1980s and
1990s.
Her presentation, which is free and open to the
public, will take the form of a stroll from one of Cairo’s small back
alleys to one of its most fancy and glittering shopping malls.
A buffet lunch, featuring international foods, is
available. A meal ticket may be purchased for $5 at the Stockdale Center’s
Scan Plus office. Lunch reservations must be made in advance by contacting
professor Sue Holm at 309-457-2150 or
susan@monm.edu.
