MONMOUTH, Ill. — The Monmouth College Pipe Band
will perform two area concerts in preparation for competing at the Loch
Norman Highland Games in North Carolina April 17-18.
The band will appear in Galesburg on March 26 at 7
p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 169 S. Cherry St. The following day, the
Pipe Band will perform in Burlington, Iowa, at 7 p.m. at the First
Presbyterian Church, 321 N. 5th St.
Both concerts, which will feature traditional
Scottish music, are free to the public.
“Any free-will donations that audience members can
make to aid the band in financing the trip to North Carolina would be
greatly appreciated,” said the band’s adviser, MC faculty member Tim
Tibbetts.
A year ago, the band placed third in its division
at the Loch Norman Highland Games. According to Tibbetts, the band is
moving up one division this year and hoping for an even higher finish.
Held at historic Rural Hill Farm in Huntersville, N.C., it is one of the
three largest pipe band competitions in the southeast.
Other elements of the Loch Norman Highland Games
are target triathlon, highland wrestling and battle axe throwing. More
