MONMOUTH, Ill. — “Have toga, will travel” is the
motto of Togaman, who will make an appearance at Monmouth College Feb. 23
at 7:30 p.m. in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room in the college’s
Stockdale Center.
Portrayed by Wade Heaton, an English instructor at
Southeastern Louisiana University, Togaman believes that “exploring the
ancient world reveals secrets about ourselves.”
Heaton has been portraying Togaman since 1997 for
schools, universities, civic groups and classical societies. Entitled “The
Toga: It’s Not Clothing, It’s a Concept,” his presentation delves into the
cultural, political, military and social aspects of the toga.
In addition to his Monmouth College appearance,
Heaton, who dons a custom-made, authentic Roman toga, will speak earlier
in the day at Immaculate Conception School and Central Junior High School
and on Feb. 24 at Monmouth High School .
