Monmouth College visiting artist to show versatility of
acrylicsRelease Date: February

MONMOUTH, Ill. — Kate Smith, a member of
Golden’s Working Artist Program in Chicago, will be on the Monmouth
College campus Feb. 24-25 for a presentation and a workshop. Both events
are free and open to the public, but reservations are required for the
workshop.
Entitled “Golden’s A-Z of Acrylics,” Smith’s presentation will be given
Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 210 of the Haldeman-Thiessen Science Center.
The fun, fast-paced presentation will cover a wide variety of acrylic
products, and their history and development will all be discussed and
demonstrated.
The three-hour workshop, which will involve acrylics, gels and mediums,
begins at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 25 in Room 203 of McMichael Academic Hall. For
reservations, contact assistant professor of art Marjorie Blackwell at

Smith earned her M.F.A. degree from the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
She moved to Chicago in 2001 and joined Golden’s a year later. Her
hands-on workshops and presentations address mixing media, color and
texture, as well as the flexibility of acrylic. Her own work, on paper and
board using mixed media and collage, is exclusively represented by The
Cadogan Contemporary Gallery in London.
