Spring Choral Concert set for Feb. 28 at Monmouth College

MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College will present its annual Spring
Choral Concert Feb. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kasch Performance Hall of
Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
Admission is free to the performance, which will feature the
Monmouth Chorale, Concert Choir and Men’s Choir, conducted by
visiting director of choral activities Shane Lynch. The Women’s
Choir, conducted by 1990 Monmouth College graduate Brett Wolfe, will
also perform.
The Concert Choir will feature works by J. S. Bach, Thomas Tallis
and others, plus the classic spiritual, “Rockin’ Jerusalem” by John
W. Work. The Men’s Choir will feature a number of works, including
Johannes Brahms’ “Rhapsody,” Opus 53, for alto solo, men’s choir and
piano. The challenging solo will be performed by sophomore Erin
Dannenberg of Arlington Heights, a member of the Chorale.
The Chorale will perform a varied program of literature, including
debuts of “Shenandoah” by James Erb and “Abendlied” by Josef
Rheinberger.
Lynch says for a special ending to the concert, the men of the
Chorale and Men’s Choir will combine for a special performance of
Kurt Bestor’s “Prayer of the Children,” a piece dedicated to the
healing of the war-torn world.
