Release Date: March 31, 2005
MONMOUTH, Ill. — Travis McKee, a music major at Monmouth College,
will present his senior conducting recital, featuring the college’s
Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band, on April 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kasch
Performance Hall of the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
The recital is free and open to the public.
Earlier in the week, on April 7, the annual spring music department
recitals will be held at 4 p.m. in the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
Performing will be students taking applied lessons in piano, voice,
percussion, woodwinds and brass. The recitals provide a unique
opportunity for the public to appreciate the individual talents of
many students who are often heard in ensemble performances but
seldom have an opportunity to perform in a solo setting.
McKee, who is from Broken Arrow, Okla., will be directing the
college’s two instrumental groups in a variety of pieces, including
works by J.S. Bach, P.D.Q. Bach, Terry Riley, Clifton Williams and
Duke Ellington.
According to Stephen Richter, lecturer in music and director of
instrumental music activities, McKee is “one of our most exemplary
music education students. It has been a delightful experience for me
to work with Travis. His positive attitude and strong musicianship
are key factors in his success.”
McKee’s conducting recital fulfills a requirement for MC music
majors to complete a “culminating experience” consisting of an
in-depth investigation of a topic chosen by the student.
