MC’s VITA volunteers ready for homestretch of
tax seasonRelease Date: March 9, 2005
MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College
accounting students will continue to offer free computerized income tax
preparation and e-filing through the remainder of the tax season.
Offered in cooperation with the
Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), the
service is on a first-come, first-served basis.
“We had a big rush when we first began
this year’s service in January, but now the crowds are not so large, so it’s a
good time to come have us prepare your tax returns,” said Judy Peterson,
associate professor of accounting, who coordinates Monmouth’s VITA program.
VITA volunteers will be available on
most Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-7 p.m. in Room 308 of McMichael Academic
Hall. Tax assistance will also be available on several Saturdays from 1-4 p.m.
at the Warren County Library.
Dates that VITA will be available are
March 14, 16, 19, 21, 23 and 30 and April 2, 4, 6, 9, 11 and 13.
Taxpayers are reminded to bring their
Social Security cards and all tax information with them. For questions regarding
this service, contact Peterson at 309-457-2365.
