MC students to discuss Katrina trip at next Monmouth
Associates luncheon Release Date:
March 9, 2006
MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College sophomores Holly Butz of Des Plaines and
Anna Prohaska of Chicago will lead the next
Monmouth Associates gathering on March
16 at noon in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room in the college’s Stockdale
Center.
Butz and Prohaska were part of the group of 20 Monmouth students, faculty and
staff who traveled to Gautier, Miss., over spring break to help rebuild houses
in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Although the group was not assigned to New Orleans, they visited the city in the
middle of the week. The rest of their time was spent in a camp of about 80
people in Gautier, which is about two hours from New Orleans. They stayed in
huts with no electricity, although there was heat.
The Associates program is free; a buffet lunch costs $6.50. Reservations should
be made by calling 309-457-2316 or online at
www.monm.edu/alumni/associates.htm by March 13.
A free shuttle van will transport passengers from downtown to all luncheons. The
van leaves from the northeast quadrant of the Public Square at approximately
11:55 a.m., and returns immediately following the program. Shuttle reservations
should be made by calling the above number.
