International Luncheons feature MC faculty member,
student groupRelease Date:
February 21, 2006
MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College will host International Luncheons on the
next two Wednesdays at noon in the Whiteman-McMillan Highlander Room of the
Stockdale Center.
On Feb. 22, assistant professor of history Amy de Farias will speak on “Rio de
Janeiro: The Marvelous City.” She lived and worked in Brazil from 1992-2002, and
her talk will highlight the city’s “fascinating history and wonderfully diverse
culture.”
The March 1 program features a group of MC students who participated in the
annual peace vigil at the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation
at Ft. Benning, Ga., last fall. Because soldiers from Latin America who have
been linked to human rights abuses trained at the institute, formerly known as
the School of the Americas, there is currently a bill before Congress to close
it down.
A buffet lunch, featuring international foods, is available on both dates. A
meal ticket may be purchased for $5 at the Stockdale Center’s Scan Plus office.
Lunch reservations must be made in advance by contacting professor Sue Holm at
309-457-2150 or susan@monm.edu.
