KGS Trio to perform concert at Monmouth College Release Date:

MONMOUTH, Ill. — The KGS Trio, with violinist David Suda,
cellist Carolyn Suda and pianist Bruce Polay, will present an evening of
chamber music February 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kasch Performance Hall of
the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
Admission to the concert, which will feature works by Beethoven, Brahms
and Spanish composer Joaquin Turina, is free.
The Sudas, who are both members of the Monmouth College faculty, performed
for many years as members of the popular Monmouth Trio. Polay is music
director and conductor of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony.
The KGS Trio performs each year as part of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony
subscription series and will present concerts later this spring in
Davenport and Burlington, Iowa. The trio has also appeared internationally
at the University of Barcelona and the Reus Conservatory of Music in
Spain.
David Suda, professor of humanities at Monmouth College, has been the
concertmaster of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony since 1985 and is a frequent
chamber music performer. Before receiving a Ph.D. degree in humanities
from Emory University, he was concertmaster of the Atlanta Opera and the
Atlanta Ballet. He is a former member of the Georgia State University
Faculty String Quartet and the Emory Piano Trio.
Carolyn Suda, lecturer in music at MC, is also director of string
activities at the college, where she founded the Monmouth String Ensemble.
She is the principal cellist for the Knox-Galesburg Symphony. She received
a B.A. degree in music and theater from Florida State University and an
M.A. degree in cello performance and pedagogy from Western Illinois
University. She has served as cello clinician at workshops and institutes
in Australia, New Zealand and throughout the United States and was for
several seasons the principal cellist of the Atlanta Opera and the Atlanta
Choral Guild.
Polay, music director and conductor of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony since
1983, is professor of music at Knox College. In addition to his
accomplishments as a conductor and published composer, Polay maintains an
active playing schedule, including performances in New York’s Carnegie
Hall and Europe. He is a frequent guest conductor with many appearances
throughout the United States and internationally.
