MONMOUTH,
Ill. — Petra Kuppinger, associate professor of sociology and anthropology at
Monmouth College, has been appointed to a three-year term as an editor for the
academic journal City and Society.
“This is a great accomplishment for Petra and also speaks well of Monmouth
College,” said professor Steve Buban, chair of the department. “With our
college’s emphasis on teaching, it is remarkable that Petra has also been able
to be so involved in the scholarly area.”
Previously, Kuppinger served as an associate editor of City and Society, which
is published semi-annually by the Society for Urban, National and
Transnational/Global Anthropology. The journal is intended to foster debate,
communication and conceptual development in urban, national, transnational and
global anthropology and related disciplines. Articles reflect applied as well as
basic research presented as case studies, comparison and syntheses based on
literature review. Published by University of California Press, City and Society
also publishes pieces of humanistic orientation, including works that are
historical, dialogical, narrative, poetic and visual.
Kuppinger, who joined the MC faculty in 2000, earned her Ph.D. earlier that year
from the New School for Social Research in New York City.
