MONMOUTH, Ill. — Four students were recently initiated into
Gamma Pi, the Monmouth College chapter of Beta Beta Beta, which is the national
honor society in biology.
At a ceremony at the college’s Stewart House, juniors Jillian Belter
of Sleepy Hollow, Noah Hendricks of Wataga, Jacob Mefford of Wataga and
Ashley Swenson of McHenry were initiated into Gammi Pi.
Nationally, Tri-Beta was founded in 1922 with the purpose of
encouraging scholarly attainment in biology and to honor its members for
superior academic records in the life sciences. Monmouth’s Gamma Pi
chapter has been in existence for the past 62 years.
Tri-Beta seeks to cultivate interest in the natural sciences and
appreciation of the value of biological study. It also encourages new
discoveries through scientific investigation and challenges
undergraduates to begin research work and report their findings in Bios,
the BBB journal.
