MONMOUTH, Ill. — Tyler Hennings, who joined the Monmouth College
faculty in 2004 as a lecturer, has accepted a tenure track position in
the college’s art department.
"Tyler brings a variety of qualifications, but I would have to say
this his greatest contributions to the department will come through his
calm and always considerate dedication to helping students find their
own voice when it comes to making art," said MC associate professor of
art Stacy Lotz, who chairs the department. "Tyler sets high standards
for his students and practices what he preaches through consistent,
dedicated and organized work habits in and out of the studio."
Hennings teaches "two dimensional" art – painting and drawing – as
well as the senior art seminar. This year, he is also instructing a
section of the college’s Introduction to Liberal Arts course.
In 1999, Hennings received a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting
from Western Illinois University. He earned a master of fine arts
degree, also in painting, in 2002 from Northern Illinois University.
Besides instructing art at WIU and NIU, he has also taught in Galesburg
at Carl Sandburg College and the Henry C. Hill Correctional Center.
An accomplished artist, Hennings took Best of Show honors at the 22nd
Biennial Southern Illinois Artists Open Competition last year, just
weeks after placing second at the 57th Biennial Quad-State Juried
Exhibition in Quincy.
