MONMOUTH, Ill. — The Monmouth College Big Band and Jazz Combo
will present a "Jazz Potpourri" on April 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kasch
Performance Hall of the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.
Free and open to the public, the concert will first feature the Big
Band, a brassy, bold instrumental ensemble under the baton of Stephen
Richter, director of instrumental activities. The band will belt out the
familiar sounds of such popular jazz legends as George and Ira Gershwin,
Burt Bacharach, George Shutack and Frank Mantooth.
Taking center stage in front of the powerful sounds of the Big Band
will be vocal soloist Jessie Bassette, a senior from Pekin, who will
sing "The Man I Love" and "The Look of Love." The concert will also
include such favorites as "Santa Fe Bandolero" and "Slow Dancin.’"
From the ranks of the Big Band, the college’s newest group, the Jazz
Combo, was formed. The smaller ensemble will perform a short program of
combo classics, including the premier of "Razmataz," a new composition
by Jason Lim, a freshman from Scotland.
