MC students to discuss

MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College students Derek Huff and
Leigh Anne Lane will present the next in a series of archaeology lectures at the
college on Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Morgan Room in Poling Hall.
Titled "Excavating in Romania 2008: The Porolissum Forum Project,"
the talk is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the MC
Classics Department in cooperation with the Western Illinois Society of
the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA).
Huff, a sophomore from Edmonds, Wash., and Lane, a junior from St.
Louis, spent part of their summer at Porolissum, which is one of the
largest and best-preserved archaeological sites in Romania. Located in
modern-day Salaj County, the military center was established in 106 A.D.
by the Roman emperor Trajan to defend the main passageway through the
Meses (Carpathian) Mountains into the province of Dacia Porolissensis.
