Monmouth College’s Big Band
hosts Halloween ‘Spooktacular’
Release Date:
October 23, 2008
MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College’s Big Band, along with one
of its newest vocal ensembles, The Scotsmen, will host a Halloween "Spooktacular"
concert on Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kasch Performance Hall of the Dahl Chapel
and Auditorium.
Free and open to the public, the concert will first feature the Big
Band, under the direction of Stephen Richter, director of instrumental
activities at the college. The 22-member ensemble, reminiscent of the
big bands of the 1940s, will perform what Richter describes as a wide
range of music from traditional swing to the avant-garde.
The instrumentalists will then give up the stage to the unique vocal
sounds of The Scotsmen, a student-run, a cappella ensemble composed of
12 men from various academic disciplines. They are led by seniors Matt
Henning of Lombard and Brian Jordan of Bartonville.
In the holiday spirit of Halloween, all the Big Band and Scotsmen
musicians will don their spookiest costumes for the concert. In fact,
said Richter, audience members are encouraged to dress up as well, as
prizes will be awarded for the top three costumes.
