Monmouth College film series to focus on Muslim issues
MONMOUTH, Ill. — In conjunction with the Buchanan Center for the Arts, Monmouth College will present a Summer Film Festival starting Aug. 14 at the college’s Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.

Titled “Beyond War and Terrorism: Understanding the Muslim World,” the four-film series, which is sponsored on campus by the Office of Intercultural Life, is free and open to the public. Each film will be shown at 4 p.m. and is approximately one hour in length. A question-and-answer session with Monmouth College faculty members Farhat Haq and Petra Kuppinger will follow each screening.

The series will begin on Aug. 14 with the 1998 documentary, “Divorce Iranian Style.” The following day, the award-winning documentary “American Ramadan” will be shown. The series concludes Aug. 29-30 when “My Home, Your War” and “Salata Baladi,” respectively, are presented.

The film festival has been made possible at Monmouth through the support of the Illinois Network of Islam and Muslim Societies, the University of Illinois and the Social Science Research Council.
