Two concerts to close Fine Arts Month at MC
MONMOUTH, Ill. — To conclude its celebration of Fine Arts Month, Monmouth College will host concerts on the final two days of October. Both events in the Kasch Performance Hall of the Dahl Chapel and Auditorium will begin at 7:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.
On Oct. 30, assistant professor of music Ian Moschenross will be joined by three colleagues for a faculty chamber music recital. Moschenross will play the piano for three sonatas, including one by Bach and two by Brahms. Music lecturer Carolyn Suda will play the cello for the selection by Bach, and the Brahms sonatas will feature, respectively, music lecturer Stephen Richter on the clarinet and professor of humanities David Suda on the violin.
On Oct. 31, Richter will return to the stage to direct the Monmouth College Big Band in its second annual “Spooktacular Jazz” concert. Again playing the clarinet, Richter will be featured in “A Tribute to Benny Goodman.” Vocalist Andrew Watson, a junior from Hoffman Estates, will also be featured during the concert.
“The band will be in costume and audience members are encouraged to dress up,” said Richter. “Admission is free, but audience members are also encouraged to bring canned food items for the local food bank.”
The students of the Monmouth College chapter of MENC (Music Educators National Conference) will judge the costumes and will also assist with the canned food drive and a 50/50 raffle for the food bank.
