Monmouth College
is proud of its Scottish heritage, and the Monmouth College Pipe Band is
an important symbol of that heritage. The pipe band performs on campus and
in the surrounding community at formal and informal events including the
Matriculation ceremony for new students, Homecoming festivities, Scots Day
and Commencement. It also plays at home athletic events and local parades.
The Monmouth College Pipe Band is a member of the
MidWest Pipe Band Association.
The band has recently competed at the Loch Norman Highland Games in
Huntersville, North Carolina placing first in Grade 4 (April, 2006), and
at the St. Louis Scottish Games placing first in Grade 3 (October,
2006). Videos of these performances can be viewed online from the
Photo Gallery page.
The continued growth of the Monmouth College Pipe Band
is fostered by recruiting piping and drumming talent into the student body
of the college. Monmouth College offers a limited number of significant
scholarships (ranging up to full-tuition) for players with the ability to
play, teach*, and assume leadership roles as members of the Monmouth
College Pipe Band. (*Scholarship members of the band provide instruction
for beginning and intermediate level students from the College as well as
from local communities.) Additional members of the band include
alumni, faculty, and community members.
Scholarship auditions normally correspond with the
College’s Fine Arts Admission Open House days, which are January 26 and February
16, 2008. If these dates are not practical because of travel arrangements,
etc., an alternative audition date can be made. It is strongly encouraged
that you apply for admission and are
admitted (or pending) to Monmouth
College before your audition.
Thank you for considering Monmouth College! We look forward to meeting
with you on (or before) the day of your audition. If you have any
questions regarding the Monmouth College Pipe Band and its scholarship
opportunities, or need admission materials, please feel free to contact:

WHAT COLLEGE WAS MEANT TO
BE |
| |
|
Founded in 1853, Monmouth
College is a nationally-ranked liberal arts college affiliated with the
Presbyterian Church (USA). Located in western Illinois, midway between
Chicago and St. Louis, Monmouth has an enrollment of 1,360 students, most
of whom live on campus in ten attractive residence halls and a modern
apartment complex.
Monmouth's faculty devotes its full attention to
undergraduate teaching. A new general-education based curriculum, designed
to better prepare students for the challenges of living and working in the
21st century, was recently adopted. |
