May 3, 2008 vs. Grinnell College at Grinnell, Iowa
Grinnell 13, Monmouth 2 (7-21, 5-6)
Monmouth 16 (8-21, 6-6), Grinnell 4

Crowning the Midwest Conference South Division champion will have to wait one more day after all four teams remained tied at the end of the regular season. Monmouth stayed alive after dropping the opener of Saturday's doubleheader at Grinnell 13-2, and rebounding to salvage a split with a 16-4 win in the nightcap. The split coupled with Knox and Illinois College's split means a single elimination tournament will be played Sunday in Monmouth and Galesburg to determine the division's two representatives in the MWC Tournament. The Scots got off to an auspicious start in Game 1 when Ryan Priola's two-run homer in the first staked Monmouth to a 2-0 lead. Grinnell responded with three runs in their half and knocked starter Mike Reed out in the fourth inning. The Pioneers posted three runs in four separate innings while limiting the Scots to just seven base runners after the first inning. The Scots broke open a close game in the nightcap with a four-run fifth to lead Grinnell 8-4. They added six unearned insurance runs in the ninth as Ryan Stubler smacked a three-run homer to tie Chris Wheat's career RBI record of 110 set from 1987-90. Tom Shaver drove in a career high four RBIs and Robbie Hinkle drove in three runs on three hits. Matt Bourne went the distance for the Scots, striking out eight and scattering nine hits.

Matt Tye picked up his first win in the complete game victory, scattering seven hits and allowing one earned run. Ryan Priola's three-run homer in the third gave the Scots a 3-1 lead. Monmouth added an insurance run on Priola's sac fly in the fifth and scored three more in the sixth to put the game away. Monmouth fell 17-6 in the nightcap despite Matt McIntire's second inning grand slam. The Scots plated six runs in the inning after falling behind 9-0. RMS slammed the door after the Scots big inning and coasted to the win. Chris Albanese took the loss.

April 26, 2008 vs. Knox College at Monmouth, Ill.
Monmouth 11 (6-18, 5-4), Knox 9
Knox 9, Monmouth 4 (6-19, 5-5)

It wasn't the sweep they wanted, but Monmouth's split with Knox moved the Scots into a first-place tie with Illinois College after the Blue Boys were swept by Grinnell. Monmouth doused the Prairie Fire 11-9 in the opener, but fell 9-4 in the nightcap. The Scots capitalized on five Knox errors in Game 1 and fought past four miscues of their own to give Mike Reed his second win of the season. Leading 11-9 with Knox's tying run at the plate, the Scots turned a game-ending double play to hold off the Fire. The Scots scored six runs in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead with Matt McIntire supplying a two run double. Knox turned the table on Monmouth in Game 2, plating five runs in the fourth for a 7-2 lead and held the Scots to just two runs the rest of the way. Brian Chandler suffered the loss. Jake Bice picked up five hits and three RBIs in the twinbill for the Scots and Willy Mason added four hits.

April 22, 2008 vs. Augustana at Rock Island, Ill.
Augustana 18, Monmouth 2 (5-18, 4-4)

It was only fitting that Ryan Priola's record-breaking double plated the only runs the Scots could muster in an 18-2 loss to Augustana. The senior designated hitter had been chasing the career doubles mark of 39 set by Michael Blaesing and Craig Foxall from 1993-96. Priola's two-out, two-run double in the fifth drove in Billy Herrin and Kevin Sashko. Herrin picked up two of the Scots' four hits on the night. Augustana jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first and were never threatened.

April 20, 2008 vs. Knox at Galesburg, Ill.
Knox 3, Monmouth 2 (5-16, 4-3)
Knox 5, Monmouth 4 (5-17, 4-4)

The race for the Midwest Conference South Division title got a lot more interesting when Knox swept Monmouth 3-2, 5-4 to move just behind Monmouth at 3-3 in the league. The Scots jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opener when Ryan Priola's single scored Kevin Sashko. The Prairie Fire took the lead with solo runs in the second and third innings. After Ryan Stubler's solo homer in the fourth tied the game at 2-2, the Fire's John Curtin delivered a solo blast in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2. Knox gunned down the tying run at the plate one inning later and held on for the win. Knox was nursing a 4-1 lead in the nightcap before the Scots rallied with three runs in the eighth. The Scots used three walks, an error, two hits and a sac fly to tie the game at 4-4. Priola delivered his fourth hit of the day, driving in Jake Virgo and Billy Herrin in the inning. Stubler then scored on Matt McIntire's sac fly. Knox re-took the lead in the bottom of the frame to pick up the win. Priola collected four RBIs on the day to go with his four hits. Mike Reed suffered the Game 1 loss, Brian Chandler took the Game 2 loss in relief.

April 17, 2008 vs. Robert Morris-Springfield at Springfield, Ill.
Robert Morris 4, Monmouth 3 (5-15, 4-2)

Monmouth gave up just one earned run in the ninth, but it was the three unearned runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings that hurt the Scots in the 4-3 loss to Robert Morris-Springfield. The Scots out-slugged the Eagles 10-4 and got a six strikeout performance from starter Matt Tye through five innings. A hit batsman and two straight hits in the bottom of the ninth gave the Eagles the win as Brian Chandler took the loss for the Scots. Monmouth tied the game three times with solo runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Chaz Baggio, Robbie Hinkle and Billy Herrin picked up RBIs for the Scots. Baggio, Matt McIntire and Jake Virgo collected two hits each.

April 15, 2008 vs. Illinois Wesleyan at Monmouth, Ill.
Illinois Wesleyan 14, Monmouth 12 (5-14, 4-2)

The Titans appeared to have the game in hand with a 12-3 lead in the top of the fourth. The Scots rallied with seven runs in the bottom of the inning and had the bases loaded, trailing by two in the bottom of the ninth before hitting into a game-ending double play. Ryan Priola collected four RBIs for the Scots, two on a first inning home run and the final two on a double in the fourth. Jake Bice picked up four hits in the game. Monmouth used five pitchers in the game, IWU used four in the 3:20 contest.

April 14, 2008 vs. Illinois College at Jacksonville, Ill.
Monmouth 4 (4-13, 3-2), Illinois College 1
Monmouth 9 (5-13, 4-2), Illinois College 7

Monmouth moved back into the driver's seat in the Midwest Conference's southern division after a 4-1, 9-7 sweep of Illinois College in Jacksonville. Mike Reed pitched seven strong innings in the opener and the Scots made two second inning runs stand up as Reed allowed just two hits. The Scots put the only runs they would need on the board in the second when Ryan Priola led off the inning with a single and Ryan Stubler reached on an error. Priola scored on a Chaz Baggio ground out. Billy Herrin's two out, bases loaded single drove in Stubler to put the Scots on their way to the road win. Chris Albanese pitched the final two innings for his first save. The Scots trailed 3-0 in Game two going into the fourth inning, but nearly batted around twice in their eight-run inning. Monmouth parlayed six hits and three hit batsmen plus one walk into eight runs in the critical inning. Jake Bice drove in two runs in the inning - twice. His first two RBIs came on a two run homer and his last two on a two run single. Monmouth used four pitchers in the game as Drew Johnson picked up his second win against the Blue Boys this season. Stubler came on to get the final out in the ninth for his first save.

April 5, 2008 vs. Illinois College at Monmouth, Ill.
Monmouth 9 (3-12, 2-1), Illinois College 8
Illinois College 4, Monmouth 3 (3-13, 2-2)

The Scots got ninth inning heroics in winning the opener 9-8, but couldn't get a key hit in the ninth of the nightcap to fall 4-3 to Illinois College. Jake Virgo's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth scored Brian Wilhelm to give the Scots a come-from-behind win against the Blue Boys. IC jumped out to a 5-0 lead through the first three innings before Monmouth could mount an offensive attack. Jake Bice supplied the big blow in the fourth, a three-run homer and Matt McIntire's base hit plated Ryan Priola to trim it to 5-4. With the Blue Boys taking an 8-4 lead in to the eighth, the Scots answered with four runs in the inning to tie the game at 8-8. Chaz Baggio's two RBI's sparked the big inning. With two outs and a runner at third in the top of the ninth, Drew Johnson came on in relief to induce a pop out and picked up the win when Virgo got the game winning RBI in the bottom of the frame. The scenario was much the same in Game 2 save for a Scots win. IC scored solo runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings for a 3-0 lead before Monmouth erupted for three runs in the seventh. After Bice's single scored Billy Herrin, Priola belted a two-run double scoring Bice and Willy Mason. The Blue Boys scratched out a single run in the ninth and picked up the win as the Scots stranded a runner at third in the ninth to fall 4-3. Bice picked up three hits and four RBIs and Herrin added four hits in the twinbill.

April 1, 2008 vs. Eastern Illinois University at Charleston, Ill.
Eastern 4, Monmouth 3 (2-12, 1-1)

For the better part of the game, it looked as if Monmouth was going to pull an April Fool's joke on Eastern Illinois. The Scots led the Division I Panthers 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, but Eastern's Brett Nommensen ripped a two-out, two-run triple to put EIU in the lead for good 4-3. The Scots drew first blood when Kevin Sashko led off the first inning with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Willy Mason. Sashko moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Jake Bice's grounder to short. Eastern pushed two runs across in the third to take a 2-1 lead. The Scots answered in the top of the fourth when Ryan Stubler's double plated Bice and Matt McIntire's sac fly drove in Ryan Priola giving Monmouth a 3-2 lead before Nommensen's heroics. Monmouth was held to just three hits over the final five innings. Bice and Billy Herrin picked up two hits each for the Scots. Chris Schwarz was saddled with the loss.

Monmouth 9 (2-10, 1-1), Grinnell 6
Grinnell 7, Monmouth 3 (2-11, 1-1)

Monmouth didn't quite get the sweep they were hoping for in their conference opener. The Scots downed Grinnell 9-6 in the opener at Glasgow Field, but fell 7-3 in the nightcap.
