Monmouth College senior center Joe Terwelp (Quincy, Ill./Notre Dame) was a big reason the Scots picked up two wins last week and earned his second Midwest Conference Performer of the Week honor in men’s basketball.

Terwelp averaged 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game over the two victories last week. On Wednesday, the 6-5 senior center helped lead Monmouth to a 58-52 come-from-behind win at rival Knox. He tallied 14 points and five rebounds in the game, as the Scots took their first lead with less than six minutes left and ended their arch rival’s postseason tourney chances with the win. Terwelp then posted a 27-point, nine-rebound game in a 77-66 win over Illinois College on Saturday, including a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. He added four assists and three steals in the two games and currently ranks seventh or better in the MWC in scoring (16.5 ppg), rebounding (6.8 rpg) and field-goal percentage (.550).

A business major, Terwelp is the son of Lawrence and Joyce Terwelp of Quincy

Monmouth College senior guard Blaise Rogers (Forest City, Ill./Midwest Central) made certain everyone noticed his return to the lineup and earned the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week honor in men’s basketball.

Playing in just his third game after missing the first half of the season with an injury, Rogers lit up the competition as the Scots posted back-to-back conference wins. Last Tuesday, the senior scored 13 points while hitting 4-of-8 shots from 3-point range as the Scots held off Lake Forest 68-67 to post their first win of the season. Saturday, Rogers was at it again, pouring in a game-high 25 points as the Scots handed Illinois College their first league loss, 70-67. He helped the Scots hold off the Blueboys, hitting 11-of-13 free throws, including a critical 3-for-4 performance in the final 30 seconds. For the week, Rogers averaged 19 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

A history major, Rogers is the son of Bobby and Becky Rogers of Forest City.

Monmouth College senior center Joe Terwelp (Quincy, Ill./Notre Dame) had arguably his best game of the season and earned the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week honor in men’s basketball.

Playing against much taller opponents, Terwelp poured in a season-high 26 points against the Division II Minnesota State Mavericks.

The 6-5 senior connected on 10-of-20 shooting from the floor, including 3-of-4 treys and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. He also pulled down seven rebounds and recorded two steals, an assist and a blocked shot. Terwelp ranks among the top 10 in the MWC in scoring (14.9 ppg), rebounding (6.7 rpg) and field goal percentage (.558).

A business major, Terwelp is the son of Lawrence and Joyce Terwelp of Quincy.
