Yeast
breaks 15-year old Monmouth rebounding record
December
3, 2007
Funny how things work out. When Monmouth College’s
Penny Rowan was pulling down her then-school record 809th career
rebound on Feb. 21, 1992, the woman who would eventually break her
record was entering first grade and had no idea of the monumental
occasion.
Fast forward to Dec. 1, 2007: The Scots women’s
career rebound record is again broken and again, Ashley Yeast
(Sciota, Ill./West Prairie) had no idea that the milestone had been
reached. Yeast’s defensive board early in the second half against
Lawrence University was the 810th of her career, a feat completely
lost on the new record-holder. "I had no idea the number I needed
and my only focus was on getting a win," Yeast said. "It was a
conference game and we needed the win."

MC’s Gorski named to national team
December 12, 2007
Just two days after being named the Midwest Conference Performer of
the Week in women’s basketball, Monmouth College junior Melissa
Gorski (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) was named to the
D3Hoops.com Team of the Week.
Gorski received her first selection to the national team after
the MWC recognized her for her back-to-back double-doubles in a pair
of games last week. The junior guard poured in 22 points and pulled
down 13 rebounds against Grinnell and followed that with a 22 point,
12 rebound effort against Augustana. Against the Vikings, she scored
seven points in the final 5:35 of the first half as Monmouth broke
the game open.
For the week, Gorski averaged 22 points, 12.5 rebounds and four
assists per game while shooting 48-percent from the floor (13-27).
She is riding a streak of 13 consecutive free throws.

MC’s Gorski earns MWC Performer of the Week honor
February 18, 2008

Monmouth College junior Melissa Gorki (Arlington Hts., Ill./Buffalo Grove) helped keep the Fighting Scots in the playoff race last week and earned the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week honor in women’s basketball.
Gorski averaged 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in a pair of crucial games. In a 72-49 win over Knox, the junior guard scored eight points, dished out five assists and pulled down six rebounds in just 25 minutes of play. She posted a career-high 29 points on 9-of-14 shooting and was 10-of-10 from the free throw line, including 6-of-6 in the final minute of an 81-71 win over Illinois College. Gorksi also pulled down seven rebounds to avenge an earlier loss to the Lady Blues.
The Scots can earn a berth in the MWC playoffs with a pair of wins this week, coupled with a Beloit loss to Ripon this weekend.
MC’s Yeast closed in on record, earns MWC Performer of the
Week honor
January 28, 2008
Monmouth
College senior Ashley Yeast (Sciota, Ill./West Prairie) posted her
third and fourth consecutive double-doubles and closed to within a
breath of the college’s career rebounding record last weekend and
was rewarded with the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week honor
in women’s basketball.
Yeast helped the Fighting Scots hand league-leading St. Norbert
their first conference loss, defeating the Green Knights 70-59. The
6-1 center threw in 14 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in the
Friday night win.
Yeast continued her rampage with 19 points and 10 rebounds in a
72-59 loss to Beloit on Saturday. She leads the conference in
rebounding (9.8 rpg) and is just three rebounds from becoming
Monmouth’s all-time rebounding leader, men or women. Her 937 career
rebounds is second only to Roger Sander’s 939 boards set from
1974-78.
An accounting and business major, Yeast is the daughter of Steve
and Judy Yeast of Sciota.
