| December 10, 1997 SCHULTZ, BAYER EARN INDIVIDUAL HONORS Two Monmouth College senior student-athletes were recently recognized for outstanding performances in their respective sports. Jill Schultz (Alpha,IL/AlWood HS) earned Midwest Conference South Division Player of the Week honors in women's basketball and Scott Bayer (Schaumburg,IL/Hoffman Estates HS) became the first Monmouth wrestler to earn an individual national ranking. Schultz was selected as MWC Player of the Week among South Division teams for the week of November 30-December 6. She scored 20 points on 10-of-16 floor shooting to lead the Fighting Scots to their first Midwest Conference win of the young season, a 63-51 victory on the road at Lawrence University on December 6. Schultz also scored 13 points in a Wednesday victory at MacMurray and has tallied double digits in all six Monmouth games so far. She is leading the squad with a 17.0 points per game average and has hit 16-of-18 free throws on the season. Bayer, who wrestles in the heavyweight class and won the 1997 Midwest Conference individual championship title, was listed as the #8-ranked wrestler at heavyweight in the first Adidas-Brute Division III individual rankings of the season. The poll lists the top eight wrestlers in each of ten weight classes at the nation's Division III colleges and universities. Bayer was 35-6 in 41 matches last season and qualified for the NCAA Division III national tournament for the first time in his Monmouth career. He has compiled an 8-1 dual record in nine matches this year.
