COACHES

Head Coach
Steve Bell, 8th Year

Phone 309-457-2174
E-mail: sbell@monm.edu

Now in his eighth year of coaching the Fighting Scots, Steve Bell has built an impressive resume. Bell’s teams have gone 50-21, including a 10-1 record in 2005, when Monmouth won the Midwest Conference for the first time since 1972 and Bell was named the league’s Coach of the Year. The Scots reached the NCAA playoffs that year for the first time in school history. Bell’s winning percentage of .704 is just a shade behind the school’s two leaders in that category -- M Club Hall of Famers Herbert Hart (.714) and Bill Reichow (.712). In addition to his coaching duties, Bell serves the college as a physical education instructor. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in that field at Bemidji State.

Chad Braun was the first assistant coach named by Bell, following his colleague from MacMurray, where Braun was the defensive coordinator. He serves in that same capacity for the Scots and is also the men’s tennis coach and strength and conditioning coach. He has guided the tennis team to the MWC playoffs the last two seasons. Braun was an All-MWC gridiron performer at Illinois College and earned his master’s degree in physical education/sports management from Western Illinois University.
