MWC PERFORMER OF THE WEEK |
Monmouth’s Pinns earns MWC Performer of the Week
April 15, 2008
Monmouth College freshman Jason Pinns (St. Charles, Ill./Glenbard South) was named the Midwest Conference Performer of the Week in men’s golf after an outstanding performance at Monday’s Springfield College of Illinois Invitational.
The one day event called for the golfers to play 36 holes and Pinns didn’t disappoint. The freshman carded an opening round even par 72 before touring the course with a 78 over the final 18 holes. His 150 total placed him third in the tournament, just three strokes back of the winner. Pinns’ 72 is the second-best 18-hole score in the MWC this season.

FIGHTING SCOTS
TEAM INFORMATION |
TEAM HISTORY
For the past several decades, golf has been a major pastime in the Monmouth
community. Monmouth College's inaugural golf season began in the spring of 1938 and was
continued until 1982.
After a 10 year hiatus, the program was resurrected for one season
in 1992. Although the Scots have been absent from the MWC golf scene, the college's name
still adorns the conference record books, winning league titles in 1940, 1975 and 5
straight from 1977-81. Their most recent titles came in 2002, 2004
and 2007. The Scots' 2007 title earned them their first NCAA
Tournament appearance since 1981.
HOME COURSE
Monmouth plays their home matches on the demanding, 6,362-yard, par-71 Gibson
Woods Golf Course. The course is aptly named with rolling fairways guarded by
old-growth trees and strategically-placed bunkers. The course is the home to the
Monmouth-Roseville High School golf team which has produced eight state team titles and six
individual state champs.
