1996 Men's Outdoor Track and Field With top-eight finishes in two individual events and one relay, Monmouth College brought home six All-American awards from the 1996 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. The NCAA National Meet was held on the campus of North Central College in Naperville, Illinois and brings to a close on one of the most successful seasons in the history of Monmouth track and field. Sophomore David Thompson, who placed 5th in the 200-meter dash last year as a freshman, repeated in 1996 with a 7th-place finish in the same event. Thompson's time in the finals was 22.85 seconds, well off of his school-record 21.41 effort in the preliminary round. This makes the second outdoor and fourth career All-American honor. Sophomore Dennis Staggs qualified for the final in the 55-meter high hurdles and finished 7th. Staggs' qualifying-round time of 7.78 seconds matched his season-best effort but his finals time of 8.18 left him three-tenths shy of the awards stand. Junior Shawn Maze placed 10th of 13 athletes in the high jump with a clearance of 6'6 1/4".
