The Monmouth College women's
track and field finished on top of the MWC Championships, held at Carroll
College, beating out Grinnell with a final score of 174 to 104. The
Scots brought home three All-American awards from the 1996 NCAA Division
III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships. The NCAA
National Meet was held on the campus of North Central College in
Naperville, Illinois last week and brought to a close one of the most
successful seasons in the history of Monmouth track and field.
Heather Furrow, who earned NCAA All-American status with her 4th-place
finish in the 400-meter dash at the Indoor National Meet in March, added
two more plaques to her collection. She picked up an individual
award in the 400-meter dash as she raced to a third-place finish in 56.70
seconds. Her finals time topped her qualifying effort of 56.95
seconds. Furrow defeated 1996 indoor national champion Shawntell
Manning of Tufts, and tied two-time Fighting Scot All-American Karen
Seeman for the highest individual placing in NCAA National competition by
a Monmouth woman. |
