Scots Golfers Picked Second in MWC
Meet This Weekend
Release Date: May 4, 2000
For
the first time in 10 years, the Monmouth College men’s golf team will be competing in
the Midwest Conference tournament, and the league’s coaches have already shown respect
for the program. In a poll of the MWC coaches, the Scots were picked to finish second
behind defending champion Knox.
Monmouth was dominant in the league
during the late ‘70s, winning six of their seven conference titles between 1975-81. The
Scots first league title came in 1940 when the college fielded its first full team.
Defending individual medallist Jared
Baszler of Grinnell will defend his title against a strong field which includes MC’s
Jim Brockett, Matt Dutz, Mike Ranallo and Craig Reiber.
This year’s MWC Men’s Golf
Championship will be hosted by Illinois College in Jacksonville, Ill., where the Scots
just competed in the Southern Division tournament, carding a 320 and finishing second
behind Knox. The two-day, 36-hole tournament will begin at 11 a.m. Friday with the final
round scheduled for 7 a.m. Saturday. |
