Jody Schaill Named MWC Player of the Week
Release Date: April 25, 2000
The Monmouth College softball
team swept a pair of doubleheaders last week to move into first place in the Midwest
Conference’s South Division, and one Fighting Scot was honored for her leadership role
during the four victories.
Jody Schaill, a sophomore
first baseman from Henry, proved to be the difference in 5-3 and 4-3 victories over
Knox, and she also contributed in a pair of 6-5 wins against Lake Forest. For the week,
Schaill was 6-for-12 at the plate, raising her team-leading average to .397. Three of
her hits were doubles and she also drove in five runs.
Schaill knocked home the game-winning
run in the opener against Knox with a two-run double and followed that up with a 3-for-3
performance in the nightcap, scoring the tie-breaking run in the bottom of the sixth and
then throwing out the potential tying run at the plate in the top of the seventh to end
the game.
Against the Foresters, Schaill
delivered a key hit as the Scots rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the opener, and she also
doubled and scored in the nightcap as Monmouth jumped out to an early lead.
Schaill, who is the daughter of Mike
and Sharon Clift of Henry, also leads the team in runs, hits, triples, total bases,
slugging percentage, on-base percentage and putouts. |
