Scots Basketball Lands Dallas City's Wibbell
Release Date: July 27, 2000
J. Wibbell, a 6-foot-4 standout
for the Dallas City Bulldogs, has announced he’ll be playing basketball at Monmouth
College in the 2000-01 season.
"After meeting Coach (Terry) Glasgow,
I was really impressed by the way he treated me," said Wibbell, who added that the good
education he’ll receive at Monmouth was also a factor in his decision.
Wibbell has been a standout at DCHS
for the past two seasons, earning All-Bushnell Tournament honors both years. He was
named MVP of the entire tourney his senior year, a campaign that saw him score 474
points and pull down 230 rebounds to average a double-double for the season. He also
blocked 24 shots. On his way to a scoring average of 21.5 ppg, Wibbell made an
outstanding 194-of-304 shots (63.8 percent), and he was accurate from the foul line as
well, sinking 78-of-110 free throws (70.9 percent).
"We feel J.’s best basketball is
ahead of him," said Glasgow. "We’re excited about his potential to contribute to our
basketball team in the near future."
Glasgow said that contribution is
likely to come at the 2-guard or wing position and added, "He’s a good shooter and a
good jumper and a quick wing-type player. You can never have too many of those."
Wibbell’s other honors include making
the all-tourney teams at the Hancock County and the Bi-County events two straight years,
earning a spot on the Daily Review Atlas Senior Shootout squad and making the WCAZ
(Carthage) All-Area team. Wibbell also participated in the IHSA slam dunk contest. |
