Jen Witmer Named MWC Player of the Week
Release Date: May 2, 2000
What can you say about a right
fielder who wears eye black on a cloudy, rainy day? If that player is Monmouth College’s
Jen Witmer you can say she is the Midwest Conference Southern Division Player of
the Week.
The power-hitting sophomore from
Polo, Ill./Polo Community H.S. had a tremendous week batting .538 on 7-for-13 hitting
which included seven runs scored, four RBI, two doubles, a triple and a home run for an
unheard-of slugging percentage of 1.077. Witmer connected on a pair of game winning
hits, one an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth in a 3-2 win over Illinois College
and a two-run homer vs. Grinnell in a 2-0 victory.
Witmer’s heroics helped the Scots to
an 11 game winning streak, an 8-0 MWC record and the first division title since 1987.
Monmouth College will host the MWC
Softball Tournament May 5-6 at the college campus. This year’s conference tournament
champion will receive a berth in this month’s NCAA National Tournament. |
