Jackson sets school record in 2000
Release Date: April 25, 2000
Monmouth College’s Constance Jackson sprinted
into the Fighting Scots record book Saturday at the Dick Young Track and Field Classic
in Grinnell, Iowa. The junior from Peoria broke former teammate Stacy Brown’s 200-meter
dash record of 24.86 by winning the event in 24.51. Jackson, who is already an automatic
qualifier at that distance for the national meet, also bettered the
provisional-qualifying mark in the 100-meter dash, which she won in 12.33. She also ran
on two first-place relays, the 4x100 (49.15) and the 4x400 (4:00.61).
MC women added two other first-place efforts, both of
which were near misses for PQ marks. Melissa Jones high jumped 1.60 meters (the
PQ is 1.64) and Jill Hoops broke the tape in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.38 (the
PQ is 15.20). Hoops did lower her PQ effort in the 400-meter hurdles, cutting her time
to 1:04.26 while placing second.
On the men’s side, Scott Stanton was the lone
winner, taking the 110-meter hurdles in 14.91. He added a third in the 400 hurdles
(54.73). Seconds for Monmouth came from Eric Holmes in the shot put, Justin
Bryant in the 200 (21.90, just shy of the PQ of 21.72), the men’s 4x800 squad
(7:57.42), Aaron Walker in the pole vault, Kara Kuhrts and Julie Larson,
who tied in the triple jump, and the men’s 4x200 relay (1:48.81). Thirds came from the
men’s 4x100 relay (42.51) and Philicia Moredock in the 200 (25.90).
Rounding out Monmouth’s point-scorers were Jackson,
