Mike Olson, who spent
last fall coaching the women's golf team in their inaugural season, has been named
defensive line coach for the Fighting Scots.
New Scots head coach Steve Bell tabbed the
veteran coach to join defensive coordinator
Chad Braun and former Scots receiver Steve Kemp on the coaching sidelines.
Olson came to Monmouth College as defensive coordinator
in 1990, serving in that capacity until 1994. The longtime coach also took over the
reins of the Scots’ wrestling program, producing the school’s only
Midwest Conference team championship in 1997.
Most recently Olson coached the
Fighting Scots first-ever women’s golf team and will guide the men’s program this
spring.
Bell says Olson “brings a lot of experience and
enthusiasm” to the program, adding “it will be good for the kids to see a familiar
face…he knows what it takes to be successful.”
Olson has also coached at Dickinson State University, Nebraska;
Upper Iowa University; Pembroke
State University, North Carolina; and Jamestown College, North
Dakota. |
