Monmouth College's Aaron Walker, a junior from
Seneca, Ill., broke his own indoor track record in the pole vault to highlight the
Fighting Scots' efforts at a five-team meet hosted by Knox College on Jan. 29.
Walker topped his previous best by 10 inches with his
winning vault of 14'6" to defeat competitors from Washington University, Loras,
Augustana and the host Prairie Fire. Augustana won both the men's and women's meets.
Other individual first-place efforts on the day came
from Scott Stanton in the 55-meter high hurdleds (7.77), Cort Mills in the high jump
(6'6") and Will Smith in the triple jump (43'6"). Stanton's time was just .02 off the
national-qualifying standard.
Two relays broke the tape as well, including Justin
Bryant, Matt Beverly, Chris Lacy and Randy Williams in the men's 4x200 (1:32.80) and
Constance Jackson, Maggie Semington, Jill Hoops and Philica Moredock in the women's
4x200 (1:49.23).
Placing second were the relay teams of Zach Hampson,
Williams, Bryant and Lacy in the men's 4x400 (3:28.99), Amon Shelby, Beverly, Rich
Johnson and Tony Miles in the men's 1600-meter sprint medley (3:48.25) and Jackson,
Semington, Hoops and Moredock in the women's 4x400 (4:14.80).
Williams ran a personal-best time of 6.71 in the
55-meter dash to place second; David Hodge was runner-up in the long jump with a PR of
22' 4-1/4"; and Eric Holmes was second in the shot put (51'5") and the weight throw
(43'2"). His latter effort was a personal record, and PRs were also set in that event by
Monmouth throwers Tobias Dicerson (40'2") and Irann Higgins (39'3").
Other notable performances included: Vanessa Armstrong
and Trista Neal finishing fourth and fifth in the women's weight throw (36'1" and
36'0"); James Amerison and Matt Beverly finishing fifth and eighth in the 55-meter dash
(6.77 and 6.84); Hoops and Moredock setting PRs in the 55-meter dash as they finished
fourth and fifth (7.65 and 7.70); Tony Miles taking sixth in the 1,500 (4:19.78); and
the women's 1,600-meter sprint relay team of Elise Estes, Julie Larson, Katie McGee and
Ann Moody, which placed third (4:42.88). |
