May 10, 2001
The proof is in the polling for the Monmouth College baseball team. The Scots landed
nine players on the South Division All-Midwest Conference first and second teams and
grabbed Player the of Year, Pitcher of the Year and Coach of the Year honors.
Coach Roger Sander earned
Coach of the Year honors after his team ran away with the South Division with an 11-1
conference mark. The lone Scots senior, shortstop Casey Boydstun (.429, 20 runs,
9 doubles), took Player of the Year honors, while junior pitcher Joe Larkins
(2-1, 2.14 ERA, .205 opponent batting average) shared the Pitcher of the Year honor with
Grinnell’s Jacob Chavez.
Joining Boydstun and Larkins on the
first team were juniors Steve Glasgow (.316, 15 RBI), Taylor Thiel (.357,
15 RBI) and Ryan Johnson (3-0, 2.77 ERA) and sophomores Beau Hellman
(.457, 13 RBI) and Jim Brady (3-0, 2.21 ERA).
