Boydstun earns MWC Player of the Week Honors
Release Date: April 30, 2001
Senior shortstop Casey Boydstun
(Galesburg, IL/HS) continued his record-breaking season in a four-game sweep of Knox
College this past week to earn Midwest Conference Player of the Week honors.
Like the rest of the offense, Boydstun was held
down during a 1-0, 2-1 Fighting Scots sweep Thursday, although he did score the game's
only run in the opener. Boydstun broke through on Saturday to lead the way to an 18-3,
16-5 sweep of the Fire. In the opener, he was 5-for-6 with a homer, four runs and five
RBIs. He followed that up by going 3-for-6 in the nightcap, drilling three extra base
hits and scoring three times. For the four games, Boydstun was 10-for-20 (.500) with
eight runs scored and six RBIs, and his slugging percentage was an even 1.000. He
already held six Monmouth career records, and his outburst against Knox gave him two
more –
hits (165)
and total bases (253). The old records belonged to Michael Blaesing (160) and Chris
Wheat (249).
Boydstun,
the son of Kenneth and Myra Boydstun of Galesburg is the third Fighting Scot baseball
player to earn Player of the Week this year. The previous winners were former GHS
teammates Taylor Thiel and Joe Larkins.
