Release Date: October 30, 2001
Thanks to a 2-0 win over rival Knox Oct. 27, junior forward Zach Hampson and
sophomore sweeper
Mark Allen (Milan, Ill./Sherrard) were named the Midwest Conference Men’s
Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week respectively.
Hampson (Carbondale, IL/HS) earned coach Rue Carthew's
nomination after scoring the game's second goal in a key 2-0 conference victory over
Knox Saturday. Hampson, who was injured on the
play, took a
cross from teammate Ryan Schlegel and drilled it perfectly into the upper corner,
moments before a hard tackle injured his ACL and forced him to miss the rest of the
game.
Allen, who
moved from center midfielder to sweeper this season,
directed the Monmouth defense in last weekend’s shutout of Knox. The Scots allowed just
eight shots against the Prairie Fire, recording their sixth win in seventh contests.
The Scots’ defense is tied for third in the conference in
shutouts (4) and in goals allowed per game (1.14).
