Release Date: May 22, 2001
Monmouth College junior Joe
Larkins was named to the 2001 NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region Baseball Team,
earning a second team berth.
The hard-throwing righthander from
Galesburg, Ill., posted an 8-1 record with an ERA of 1.77. He struck out 53 batters in
66 innings, walking 19 and allowing 49 hits. Larkins posted three shutouts, including
one over an Illinois Wesleyan University squad that is one of eight schools left in the
Division III national tournament.
In all, the Midwest Conference was
represented by nine players on the three-team, 42-player all-region squad. Ripon, which
reached an NCAA regional final, had six players selected, including first teamers Nick
Johnson and Chris Morgan.
"This is by far the greatest
representation ever by the Midwest Conference on this team," said Chris Graham,
assistant commissioner of the MWC.
