Purlee Named Player of the Week
Release Date: November 5, 2001
Sophomore quarterback Rob Purlee
(Mt. Carroll, Ill./HS) has been named the Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the
Week for the second time this season.
Purlee, who won the award following the
Fighting Scots season-opening victory against Eureka, gets the nod on the strength of
his five touchdown, no interception performance Saturday as the Scots defeated Grinnell
36-14.
The sophomore signal-caller’s TD passes
covered 23, 7, 25, 19, and 24 yards, giving him a school-record 24 scoring passes this
fall and the third five-TD game of his career. He finished 11-of-26 for 232 yards and
added 39 yards on the ground on seven carries.
Purlee’s 35 career touchdown passes
ranks him second in the Scots record book behind Hall of Famer Mark Reed (39).
