Stanton named Special Teams Player of the Week
Release Date: September 24, 2001
Senior
defensive back Scott Stanton (Monmouth, Ill./HS) has been named co-Midwest
Conference Special Teams Player of the Week along with Carroll College’s Brad Guettel.
Stanton was not only
the Scots' most valuable special teams player Oct. 27, but he may have been the game MVP
as well, as he blocked two punts, scooping up the second himself and taking it 26 yards
for the TD that proved to be the turning point in the Scots’ 35-21 victory over
Lawrence. Monmouth led 14-7 in the third quarter when Stanton recorded the key block and
TD. He also had an interception in the game, broke up two passes and made six tackles.
The victory
gives the Scots a 5-2 mark through the first seven games.
