Scots’ Bennett
Named MWC Player of the Week
Release Date: December 4, 2002
MONMOUTH,
Ill. – Monmouth College junior forward Troy Bennett (Monmouth,
Ill./Warren) has claimed the season’s first Midwest Conference Men’s
Basketball Player of the Week honor.
During the Scots’ 2-1 start, Bennett showed that the ill effects of
last year’s season-ending ACL injury are behind him. He poured in 21
points against tough Division II Central Missouri State University
in the season opener, and he starred with 31 points in a win over
Concordia-River Forest. The athletic 6-foot-6 wing added 22 points
in Sunday's OT victory over William Penn, including a key
three-pointer in overtime.
For the three games, Bennett has averaged 24.7 points per game,
making 28-of-45 shots (62 percent), 7-of-14 treys (50 percent) and
11-of-12 free throws (92 percent). In addition, he averaged
5.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals.
“Troy certainly deserves the honor,” said his coach, Terry Glasgow.
“I’ve said all along that he has the potential to be – if not the
best – one of the top two or three players in the league.”
