Change in Women's Basketball
Schedule
Release Date: December 3, 2002
MONMOUTH,
Ill. – Monmouth has rescheduled its December 18th game against Rockford.
It will now be played December 4th at 7 p.m. at MC's Glennie Gym. The
following is a detailed news release about the event:
A women’s basketball schedule discrepancy between Monmouth and
Rockford colleges has resulted in a delightful twist of fate for
Fighting Scots’ senior standout Melissa Jones.

Jones |
Jones figured that her first and only collegiate meeting against her
sister, Paula, a freshman at Rockford, would occur on Dec. 18, when
Monmouth was scheduled to play the Regents at Glennie Gym.
Rockford,
however, has been publicizing the meeting for Dec. 4. When Monmouth
officials learned about the discrepancy on Monday, they attempted to
find officials for Dec. 4 and were successful, so the two teams will
meet at 7 p.m.
Jones will enter the game needing just five points to become the
sixth player in the history of the women’s program to score 1,000
points. She figured to join the group – which also includes Heather
Robertson, Penny Rowan, Ann Jamieson, Karen Valentas and Jill
Schultz – when Monmouth plays Knox on Dec. 7, but now she should
reach the mark with her sister present.
The younger Jones is also a basketball talent, as she captured the
Queen of the Hill title last year at the Country Insurance
Three-Point Showdown at the IHSA girls state basketball finals. In
her brief collegiate career, she’s averaging 9.8 points per game as
a starting forward for Rockford.
Both girls prepped at East Moline’s United Township High School and
are the daughters of Marvin and Sandra Jones of Port Byron.
