Black Hawk East Transfer Headed to Monmouth

Release Date: June 24, 2002

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Although Marie Webster has never attended a class at Monmouth College or played a basketball game for the Fighting Scots, she should already feel right at home.

Webster, the cousin of MC track star Philicia Moredock, played two years at Black Hawk East in Kewanee, including her freshman season with current Fighting Scot Tiffany Baughman. As a sophomore, she led BHE in scoring.

Webster played her prep basketball at Guilford (freshman through junior season) and Harlem (senior season), two high schools in the Rockford area. As a senior, she teamed with current University of Illinois player Aminata Yanni to help Harlem reach the Class AA supersectional, where the Huskies were eliminated by Galesburg 68-63. That Silver Streaks team included current MC player Michelle Flaar.

“We’re very glad Marie is joining our program,” said head women’s basketball coach Dennis Mann. “She’s an excellent shooter with three-point range, and I think she’ll fit in very well for us in the two-guard slot. We’re going to be a young team next year, so the fact that she has two years of college ball behind her will help us.”

The daughter of Michael and Barbara Webster of Machesney Park, Webster plans to major in physical education with an emphasis on athletic training.
