
Monmouth College’s Lerner named
Academic All-District

MONMOUTH,
Ill. – For the second straight year, Monmouth College’s Matt Lerner,
a 6-foot-2, 240-pound senior defensive lineman from Hartford, Wis.,
(Union), has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District V
College Division football team.
Lerner was named to the third team after being selected as a
second-teamer in 2001. The history major leads the team in sacks
(6.5) and tackles for loss (20); is tied for the team lead in fumble
recoveries (2); and is third on the team in tackles (57).
“Matt is a tremendous athlete and a great example of the kind of
student-athlete we’re producing at Monmouth,” said coach Steve Bell.
“He has been a great leader for our team, both on the
field and in the classroom.”
The
Verizon Academic All-District V team is voted on by sports
information directors from the district, which includes four states
and two Canadian provinces.
To be eligible for the award, an
athlete must meet minimum grade point requirements, have legitimate
athletic credentials and be a starter or important reserve while
reaching at least sophomore status.
Lerner is the son of David and Christine Lerner of Hartford,
Wisconsin.
