MC places 24 athletes on Academic All-MWC list

MONMOUTH, Ill. – A total of 24 student-athletes at Monmouth College have been named to the Academic All-Midwest Conference team for the fall 2003 sports season. Student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.2 grade point average to be eligible for the honor.

The Fighting Scots’ football team led the college in selections with six team members: seniors Andy Full, Sublette, Ill. (Amboy); Phil Pullen, Monmouth, Ill. (Monmouth); Rob Rogers, East Moline, Ill. (Orion); and Jon Rider, Kewanee, Ill. (Wethersfield); and sophomores Matt Hammer, Shannon, Ill. (Eastland) and Luke Wickman, Havana, Ill. (Havana).

Monmouth’s cross country teams placed four members on the honors list. Representing the women were senior Elizabeth Altekruse, St. Charles, Ill. (St. Charles) and sophomore Erin Mann, Monmouth, Ill. (Monmouth). The men’s team was represented by sophomores Zach Barr, Roseville, Ill. (Roseville) and Anthony Welty, Dixon, Ill. (Newman Central Catholic).

The women’s golf team placed three on the list: seniors Nicole Auclair, Darien, Ill. (Hinsdale South), Stefanie Fitzsimons, Aurora, Ill. (West); and Amy Rassman, New Lenox, Ill. (Lincoln-Way).

The Scots men’s and women’s soccer teams each placed three on the honors list. Named from the men’s team were seniors Mark Allen, Milan, Ill. (Sherrard); Kenneth Fuller, Crete, Ill. (Chicago Christian); and Justin Williams, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Pine Creek). A trio of sophomores represented the women: Kathleen Heinrich, Peotone, Ill. (Peotone); Abby Horneck, Hermiston, Ore. (Hermiston); and Amy Horneck, Hermiston, Ore. (Hermiston).

The volleyball also had three athletes named to the list: senior Amy Bender, Crystal Lake, Ill. (South); and juniors Molly Pendergrass, Galesburg, Ill. (Galesburg) and Maria Shepard, Delavan, Ill. (Delavan).

Rounding out the Monmouth representatives on the Academic All-MWC team were two women’s tennis team members - senior Allison Costello, Mendota, Ill. (Township) and junior Beth McKenna, Peoria, Ill. (Notre Dame).
