MONMOUTH, Ill. – A total of nine
student-athletes at Monmouth College have been named to the Academic
All-Midwest Conference team for the winter 2002-03 sports season.
Student-athletes must have achieved at least a 3.2 grade point
average, have attained at least sophomore status and completed one
academic year at their current school to be eligible for the honor.
The Fighting Scots’ women’s indoor track
team led the college in selections with seven team members: seniors
Cheris Beaty, Havana, Ill. (HS), Jill Hoops, Hanna City, Ill.
(Farmington), Melissa Jones, Port Byron, Ill. (East Moline), Kara
Kuhrts, Toulon, Ill. (Stark County), Jennifer Latchford, Rock Falls,
Ill. (Rock Falls), and Lindsey Whately, Fairbury, Ill. (Prairie
Central); and junior Elizabeth Altekruse, St. Charles, Ill. (East).
Jones was also Monmouth’s lone representative on the women’s
basketball squad.
The men’s basketball team placed two
sophomores on the honors list: Nick Swing, Loda, Ill. (Cissna Park),
and Kyle Wilhelm, Grayslake, Ill. (Mundelein).
