MONMOUTH, Ill. – The efforts of the Monmouth
College softball and baseball teams did not go unnoticed among the
Midwest Conference coaches.

Fighting Scots softball and baseball coaches
LeAnn Hagen and Roger Sander were awarded South
Division Coach of the Year honors for guiding their teams to the
division title. Hagen guided the Scots to a 10-3 league record and
Sander’s squad had a 10-2 division mark.
Four Scots were named to the softball first
team – senior first baseman Vanessa Madison (Mapleton,
Ill./Limestone) and three juniors – pitcher Heather Burrows
(Lewistown, Ill./HS), third baseman Michelle Meyer (Mapleton,
Ill./Illini Bluffs) and outfielder Stephanie Smith (Chicago,
Ill./Nazareth Academy).
Burrows tied the school record for wins with
12, and she finished the year with a 1.68 ERA.
In baseball, senior pitcher/second baseman
Beau Hellman (Ottawa, Ill./Marquette) was selected to the
first team and named both the Pitcher and Player of the Year in the
South Division. Hellman finished the season with a 6-1 record (5-1
against MWC schools).
Other first teamers included two seniors -
pitcher Toby Lannholm (Galesburg, Ill./HS) and outfielder
Jeremy Hamilton (East Peoria, Ill./HS) - sophomore shortstop
Thad King (Loraine, Ill./ROWVA) and two freshmen – outfielder
Jason Salmon (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) and designated hitter
Nathan Clark ( Peoria, Ill./Limestone).
Sophomore infielder Alan Betourne
(Washington, Ill./HS) was named to the second team.
